Gaudi’s Casa Calvet won an award for the best new development in Barcelona and was perhaps one of the main drivers of his career. Compared to later designs it was perhaps “restricted” because of the existing buildings either side, but remains on the list of tourists, (much to the annoyance of apartment owners and the ground floor restaurant). The client was a mill owner that produced cotton and fabric and Gaudi designed the facade columns in the form of the “bobbins” used to wind the thread.
